Featuring Ray Solaire, Cruise Director for Regent Seven Seas Cruises
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING IN THE CRUISING INDUSTRY AND HOW MUCH OF THAT HAS BEEN WITH REGENT SEVEN SEAS CRUISES?
I started working on cruise ships 50 years ago and I’ve been with Regent for 12 years.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DESTINATION AND WHY?
New Zealand. It is such a beautiful country, with amazing people. I once finished my contract there and spent 2 weeks traveling. I did the famous Milford Sound Trail over the mountains (a 5-day hike); it was brilliant!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MEAL ON BOARD?
Fish and Chips. I am English.
WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT WHAT YOU DO AND/OR WHAT DO YOU MISS DOING THE MOST?
There are many things I love about my job. Meeting guests — many of which have become firm friends over the years — it’s probably a tie with traveling and entertaining.
WHERE IS HOME?
My home is the Lake District in North West England. It is the largest national park in England and a World Heritage Site. It’s a very special place.
WE LOVE OUR CREW AND WANT TO KNOW, HOW ARE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY DOING?
I am very well. It is important to remain positive. We have such a wonderful team on Navigator, who are an inspiration to all of us.
STAYING CONNECTED AT A TIME LIKE THIS IS SO IMPORTANT. HAVE YOU ALL BEEN ABLE TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS?
The company on board has been great. Also, many of our wonderful guests have been in contact with me via email.
WE MISS SAILING AS MUCH AS YOU DO. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BEGIN SAILING AGAIN?
Cruising has been the main factor in my life. I worked it out the other day, I have spent half of my life onboard a ship. It is in my blood. We will get over this and when we do, we will rebound better, stronger and more resourceful than ever. One thing for sure is we will have the cleanest hands in the world.
