Journey to Luxury Perfected: Seven Seas Splendor™

BY: JOHN LASHBROOK

After much anticipation, we are pleased to announce that Seven Seas Splendor, the newest ship in the Regent Seven Seas Cruises fleet is finally here in all her grace and glory. Building a ship of this caliber is only possible when the industry’s most talented, experienced and passionate experts work together with the common goal of creating something truly special. As we celebrate her arrival and prepare for the upcoming Christening Ceremony on February 21, 2020, it seems only fitting to reminisce about the highlights that made her journey so meaningful.

A VISION OF LUXURY

From the moment plans were announced to build Seven Seas Splendor™, it was clear that the objective was not only to raise the bar, but to design and build a true masterpiece, where every last detail was considered, and no expense was spared. Seven Seas Splendor™ would be a physical and experiential manifestation of Luxury Perfected.

“In our pursuit to exceed guest expectations, we are creating a work of art, from bow to stern. Wherever you turn on Seven Seas Splendor™ you will be surrounded by elegance, comfort and hospitality. We can’t wait to show the world what luxury perfected truly means.”

Jason Montague, President and Chief Executive Officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises

CONSTRUCTION

Witnessing the construction of Seven Seas Splendor™ over the years has truly been a remarkable journey, with each milestone serving as a testament to the unwavering dedication, attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship of those entrusted to bring our grand vision to life.

Built by Fincantieri in Ancona, Italy, construction officially began in 2018 with the ceremonial lighting of the torch that would cut the first plate of steel. Within a few short months, after all the steel had been cut and shaped, it was time for the Keel Laying Ceremony. According to shipbuilding tradition, 3 coins were permanently embedded into the keel of the ship to invite good fortune to all who sail aboard. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of assembly as the first of 210 blocks that would make up the 55,000 gross ton vessel were lifted onto the dry dock.

Construction of Seven Seas Splendor™ continued and by February 2019, she left the building dry dock and touched water for the first time during a float out ceremony. With the exterior complete, the rest of the year would be dedicated to the final stage of construction, building out the distinctive interior spaces that would truly set her apart with an unprecedented level of comfort and luxury at sea.

LUXURY PERFECTED

Delivered in January of 2020, Seven Seas Splendor™ is nothing short of a masterpiece by any measure. The exquisite, airy ambiance, and soothing color palette throughout the ship sets the backdrop as your eye is naturally drawn to the accents of fine woodwork, intricate inlays and plush furnishings that have been carefully curated and created to make each space stunningly unique. Extensive Italian marble and custom stonework exude luxury while the breathtaking interiors are further enhanced by dazzling chandeliers and custom lighting installations that illuminate an impressive, multi-million-dollar, fine art collection which includes works from Picasso and Rodin.

Tastefully appointed, all-suite accommodations — each featuring a private balcony — are available in 10 suite categories ranging from the 307 square-foot Veranda Suite to the lavish 4,443 square-foot Regent Suite. The Regent Suite is the largest suite ever constructed on a luxury cruise ship, with more than 3,000 square-feet of interior accommodations and a 1,300 square-foot wraparound veranda, complete with an in-suite spa retreat and countless other premium amenities.

With a maximum of 750 guests on board and one of the highest space ratios and staff-to-guest ratios in the cruise industry, Seven Seas Splendor™ offers the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a romantic escape or relaxing getaway while our attentive crew caters to your every need.

CAPTAIN MELANI

Join us and discover the wonder of Seven Seas Splendor™ for yourself as we make history. Our preview voyages are helmed by Captain Melani, the first woman in history to captain a new ocean cruise ship at launch.

Captain Melani has quickly progressed in her nearly 30-year career to roles of cruise ship leadership.  She became the company’s first female Master Captain in 2016 and has led Seven Seas Explorer®, Seven Seas Mariner® and Seven Seas Navigator® during her tenure.

“There is a growing number of very talented female captains emerging in our industry, and we’re proud to be pioneers for those women who aspire to lead the Bridge. Exploring the world and leading ship teams has been a love of mine and I enjoy sharing this passion with everyone who sails with us. I’ve always believed in the words of Karen Blixen that ‘the cure for anything resides in saltwater — sweat, tears and the sea.”

Captain Serena Melani, Captain of Seven Seas Splendor™ at Regent Seven Seas Cruises

THE CHRISTENING CEREMONY
