By: Jamie Logan
Cruise Director, Seven Seas Mariner®

As cruise director, my goal is to surprise and delight our wonderful guests as they journey from one destination to the next. Having served aboard the luxurious Regent Seven Seas Cruises ships for more than 15 years, I am proud to say it has been an experience beyond my wildest dreams. I especially enjoy sailing through Alaska in the summer – it is truly a fascinating destination!

If you were to take a poll and ask our well-traveled crew “What is your favorite cruise to sail on?” I believe the Alaska voyages would be number one on the list. From its majestic ancient glaciers to its rich history, Alaska is exciting and romantic for couples and the best family vacation among all of the voyages. The abundant wildlife and unparalleled beauty are a few of the delights that make Alaska so special.

This past summer, one of our entertainment members walked in the office as we were beginning to approach Juneau. My wife Dana, the assistant cruise director, and I were looking out of our office window because it was simply stunning outside. Our entertainer asked if we were looking for whales and I said, “I shouldn’t tell you this but I haven’t seen one yet.” As she stepped beside us to peer out of the window, all of a sudden an enormous humpback whale breached very close to the ship, right in front of us!  My how we all laughed!

Among my favorite places to visit in Alaska is historic Skagway with its outstanding scenery, the surrounding snow-mantled mountains are amazing and there is always so much to do. I also enjoy visiting beautiful Sitka, which is known for its fishing industry. When sailing past the magnificent Hubbard Glacier, I always think to myself “What a wonderful world.”
