Tour Spotlight: Scenic Helsinki Harbor Cruise

Helsinki is not only the capital, but also the cultural, commercial and political center of Finland. With its spacious streets interspersed with many gardens and parks, it’s hard to imagine that Helsinki’s true beauty lies on its nearby islands.

Helsinki harbor is a delightful maze of islands, dotted with historical sites – all of which can be seen and experienced on one of Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ complimentary shore excursions: Scenic Helsinki Harbor Cruise.

On this exclusive tour, guests sail the waters surrounding Helsinki and have the opportunity to take in landmarks such as Suomenlinna, an 18th century fortress so impressive that it has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built during the Swedish rule of Finland, it spans several small islands. This unique urban archipelago boasts waterfront saunas and many old villas.

Guests will also be able to spot giant icebreakers basking in the summer light, as if on a well-deserved holiday after months of carving out the path to the port during the winter.  The harbor cruise is lead by a knowledgeable guide who explains the vibrant history of Helsinki and the city’s long-standing relationship with the sea.

The end of this informative cruise does not indicate the end of the tour, as guests continue to an open-air market, where they will have time to wander and shop, perhaps sampling some delicious fresh berries or other locally grown produce before it’s time to rejoin the coach and travel back to the pier.
